Kiara Childs is a third year PhD student in the Communication Department at UNC-Chapel Hill. Kiara is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and has a background in Gender and Women Studies and Journalism and Mass Communication, with an emphasis in Strategic Communication. While at UNC, she studies standards of beauty, Black women’s advocacy online, and Black cultural production online. As a 2019-2020 Digital Portobelo Public Engagement Intern, Kiara helps develop social media strategies, increase engagement with Digital Portobello’s digital platforms, and update and manage content on the website.
