Project Role: K-12 Curriculum Development

Laurel Stolte traveled to Portobelo in 2017 to assist with K-12 curriculum development and the intergenerational oral history project. She holds an Ed.D. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where her research focused on cross-cultural learning in dual language programs. As an assistant principal at Sand Hill-Venable Elementary School (Asheville, NC) and former coordinator of Southwest Elementary’s (Durham, NC) dual language program, she is excited by Digital Portobelo’s potential for sharing “mirrors” and “windows” – rich, authentic stories and resources that both reflect Afro-Latin experiences and broaden all students’ worldviews – with students in the United States and Panama.
